Chestertown RiverArts the Art of Stewardship
Chestertown RiverArts the Art of Stewardship Juried Art Show, which will run from Thursday, April 2 through Thursday, April 23, 2015 in the RiverArts galleries. The Art of Stewardship exhibition kicks off "Earth Stewardship Days: Rev Up the Planet," a month-long series of stewardship activities devoted to expanding our community's understanding of the issues, creating inspirational experiences and promoting personal and collective stewardship actions.
Stewardship is the act of caring for that, which has been entrusted to us. In this exhibit we are challenging artists to look at the world around them through this lens. The protection of this planet is a responsibility we all share, and conveying that idea in art is at the heart of this exhibit. Essentially, this show is a way for each artist to be the messenger for an idea that promotes good stewardship of our world.
The Art of Stewardship Exhibition is a collaborative effort between Chestertown RiverArts and the Chester River Association, with the support of The Art of Stewardship Project and the Carla Massoni Gallery. The exhibition will feature works that express and exemplify the importance of being good stewards of the earth. Register online to participate. Because of the recent need to focus on the impact of our recent snowstorm, the submission deadline has been extended to the end of the weekend on Monday, March 2.
Internationally acclaimed artist Greg Mort, will judge the show and host the awards ceremony. Greg is the founder of the Art of Stewardship Project, a private foundation established by the Mort Family to encourage stewardship of the earth and environmental awareness through the arts. Recognized today as one of America's leading contemporary artists, Greg's watercolor, oil and pastel images are in notable collections around the world. He loves meeting the artists for this show, and has graciously offered brief portfolio critiques for interested participating artists. Greg will speak about Stewardship during the Preview Reception and Award Ceremony on Thursday, April 2. Watch for your invitation!
The show is curated and juried by renowned Chester River artist and president of the Chester River Association, Marcy Dunn Ramsey.
Artists may submit up to three pieces of work in a digital format for the jurying process. All medium are accepted. Registration instructions are online.
